COVID19 Update: Bipartisan Legislation Introduced to Prevent Garnishment of Economic Impact Payments

Consumer advocacy groups and the banking industry both applauded recent bipartisan legislation that will exempt Economic Impact Payments from garnishment. The Senate Finance Committee introduced the bipartisan legislation. These funds are explicitly meant to help families make ends meet during the pandemic. If the payments are garnished, families cannot use the payments to make ends meet. Passing this bipartisan legislation will ensure that these funds can be used as intended.
